Getting There

You can reach Bario by foot and boat but it will take about three weeks. The only practical mode of transport viable to Bario is by aeroplane. MASwings, a subsidiary of Malaysia Airline, provides daily flight to Bario, either departing from Miri or Marudi using a Twin Otter aircraft with a seating capacity of 19 passengers, which takes approximately 55 minutes from Miri to Bario, ten minutes less from Marudi.? At Miri International Airport, each passenger can carry along 10 kg loads or luggage with them to fly to Bario. For passengers flying out from Bario, each passenger plus their luggage cannot exceed 15kg.

Upon your arrival in Bario, you are required to register with MASwings at Bario airport detailing when you will be flying back to ?Miri, even though you have purchased a confirmed returning ticket from Bario to Miri.? This is because the limited capacity of 19 passengers in the Twin Otter aircraft and Bario residents is given priority to get seats on the aeroplane if they want to fly out to Miri. Therefore, you are strongly advised to reconfirm your tickets with MASwing.

If you are an International visitor, in addition to registration with MASwings, you are required to register with the immigration department upon your arrival in Bario.
